I just saw this on Christian PF: Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, two of the world’s richest people, have just asked their fellow billionaires to join them in giving away 50% or more of their wealth. That’s a lot of money.
According to Reuters:
They have named the campaign the Giving Pledge and are asking those who commit to giving away at least half their fortune during their lifetime or after their death to publicly state their intention with a letter explaining their decision.
The campaign is called The Giving Pledge. According to their site:
The Pledge is a moral commitment to give, not a legal contract. It does not involve pooling money or supporting a particular set of causes or organizations.
While the Giving Pledge is specifically focused on billionaires, the idea takes its inspiration from efforts in the past and at present that encourage and recognize givers of all financial means and backgrounds. We are inspired by the example set by millions of Americans who give generously (and often at great personal sacrifice) to make the world a better place.
Now, obviously these people can probably afford to give away a ton and still have a lot of money left over. But, still, no one’s making them do this. So here are some questions to think about and discuss:
- Why?
- How will this affect those who give?
- How will this affect the world and those in need?
- Am I comfortable with what I’m giving? Should it be more? Less?
One last thought: don’t wait until you’re a billionaire to start sharing your wealth. Want to learn more? Take this Match for Money Quest from the Adventurer’s Guide. And remember to post your thoughts here in the comments!

Good luck! :)
It gives tham a warmfuzzy feeling when they give.
Giving is a Christian principal that has been taught in the bible for years. It is what every person should be doing.
