Whew! What a game! What a party! If you’re anything like me, you wake up the morning after having friends over to find your home in utter disarray. Now comes the fun part: Cleaning! It’s time to get that abode ship-shape (or at least house shaped) and do it for cheap! Here’s a few of the Frugal’s favorite tips for keeping the homestead tidy.

One! Make sure that whatever mops or sponges you are using are reusable. There’s no need to waste a lot of money on products that you’re only going to get one use out of. Reusable mops and cleaning gloves can be utilized over and over again, and when sponges become too worn for the dishes, you can use them for the floor! Saving moola!

Deux! You can find a lot of your cleaning supplies among everyday household items. Vinegar is a great all-purpose cleaner and can be used all over the house, a squirt of lemon is great for bleaching, and mixing salt and baking soda is a great abrasive for scrubbing your sinks and tubs. Most (if not all) of these products can probably already be found in your home.

Three! Don’t waste the products that you have to buy. Paper towels are a perfect example, and they always come in handy. But that doesn’t mean we need to over-do it with them. When cleaning windows or smudges around the house, squeegee’s are invaluable and can be used over and over again, and sometimes just a crumpled up newspaper can get the job done. No need to waste! Save the paper towels, and just like anything else, save your money!

Finally, let’s get back to those products that you can’t avoid buying. You’re going to need a couple of store-bought cleaners here and there, it’s just going to happen. You don’t, however, need to buy a separate window cleaning solution, table-top cleaner, bathroom cleaner, sink scrubber, tub scrubber, and floor cleaner. You can save a bunch by simply picking up a multi-purpose cleaning solution and using that for a lot of the spills and mishaps around the house. In addition to only having to buy one bottle, as opposed to five or six, it also saves you room in the cleaning cupboard. Win!

So that’s it for now. Be sure to share any tips of your own for keeping the house clean. Time to scrub the nacho cheese off the ceiling. How did that get there anyways? Freckles!!!

And remember: every day you log in to The Frugality Game, you can earn tokens to increase your chances of winning $50,000 or a new car. Plus, we’ll have a new post in the Adventurer’s Blog every day this month. Bye for now!
