Summer is approaching with the haste of runaway train. Kids will soon be littering the streets and just about every place you go with the family is going to be packed to the brim with tons of other families looking to enjoy themselves on a hot summer day.

On top of the crowds, it seems that everything to do during the summer costs exponentially more than it does during any other time of the year. Water parks, Disneyland , sporting events – they can all be frightfully expensive. Heck, even a trip to the movie theatre for a family of four can cost up to $100 when you factor in snacks. That’s a lot of cash for a single outing. Luckily, we’ve got a few ways to have fun with the whole family and keep most of that moola in your wallet.

1. Have a picnic. Take a trip to the local park, lay out a blanket, and enjoy a relaxing day out in the sun with some homemade food. The kids can go crazy on the playground and it won’t cost you anything more than the price of the food.

2. Take a trip to the beach or the lake. It’s similar to the picnic idea, although parking at beaches can be a bit pricey depending on where you’re going. You may even be able to turn the voyage into a two or three day camping trip, which is another great, frugal idea.

3. Organize a neighborhood softball game and barbeque. What in the world is more fun than a mid-summer ball game with friends and family? Top of the day by having a barbeque afterwards. These are great for summer weekends.

There are tons of ways to save cash if you just put some thought into it. Let us know if you have any additional ideas! See you later!

We like to do movies at the dollar theater in the summer; but we don’t buy food/drinks there ever (waaay too expensive these days).

Neither do we. We usually will eat before we do. Or get something on the way home. Either way, it saves on food/drinks
