“Frugal” is making a comeback. Thanks to the global recession, more people are seriously considering ways to reduce their spending and manage their debt. But many still think of frugality as just something to endure until prosperity returns.
In reality, frugality will always improve your quality of life–no matter what your income level.
Frugality means:
- rejecting the culture of consumerism,
- spending less than you earn, and
- avoiding unnecessary debt.
Think about it: the results will always be increased financial confidence, better focus on the important things in life, improved relationships, and more peace. So let’s change our perception of frugality.
When you hear the word “frugality,” do you automatically associate it with a poorer quality of life–or a better one?

I always associate it with a more-controlled life. It’s only better if you make it so. I do think we are too swayed by advertising/marketing and we’re not really paying for the item, but for the perceptions of what that item will do for us.
Good insight, Desiree–Thank you!
being in control of one’s expenses helps with self-esteem
and sets the standards for a lifestyle that provides for priorities.
thanks for saying we reject consumerism.
peer pressure sucks.
