Hi everyone, Fern here, and we are on our way to Africa in The Frugality Game! When we head out to destinations such as Africa, we love to make it a camping expedition and not do the touristy thing. During our travels, we discover and uncover all types of things. We also find great ways to save and budget.
I would like to share with you a couple of ways to take your family on camping adventures without breaking the piggy bank:
Locating a camp site. Campgrounds and public parks are typically affordable locations to bring your family. A great resource to use to find places to go and their price ranges is www.camping.com. It also provides info on the equipment you’ll need (including food and clothing), and you can also book campsites online.
It includes tips on how to take the best photos–which has helped Frank tremendously to capture our memories–and campsites that allow your furry pet friends. This is a one-stop-shop for camping. By reading other campers’ comments and ratings, you can determine which locations are the best for you and your family.
How to be prepared on a budget. Once you have decided where to go, it is time to organize your supplies. For our online frugal shoppers a great way to search for great deals is through sites like www.ebay.com. You can find great deals on this site and name your own price.
For our really frugal families, borrowing supplies is another great way to go. Between your family and friends you could probably find a combination of items you can borrow without having to buy them such as tents, sleeping bags, portable stoves and other universal items. It is important to return the items borrowed in the same condition that you received them.
Frugal ideas when camping. GetRichSlowly.org offers 26 great cheap camping tips and suggestions, from waterproofing matches by dipping them in nail polish to rubbing orange peels on your face, arms and legs to keep mosquitoes away. These tips helped us a lot on our far off adventures when supplies were scarce and it helped my kids Frannie and Freddie appreciate the value of a few basic items being used as multiple resources.
Have frugal fun! The most important thing to remember is to have fun and you can do that without spending a dime during your camping trip. Sing songs, take hikes, go swimming. All of these ideas are fun frugal ways of being budget conscious without sacrificing the fun!

You can find cheap campsites in national forests and they’re free if you boondock (also called dispersed camping). National forest campgrounds don’t have many services, usually just an outhouse, a garbage dumpster, and maybe a water spigot. Each campsite within the campground will have a fire ring and maybe a picnic table, but hey, it’s camping after all. Dispersed camping is even more primitive, usually just a fire ring. But we’re talking $10 a night and less, so it’s VERY affordable. Bring your own water, a folding table, and a shovel that you can dig a toilet hole with. You’re all set.
Happy trails.
i was with you until the hole part;/ haha.
i love those bonfire beach campsites…
do they have mobile homes for rent
or is it always rvs?
