It’s mid-February once again, and you know what that means! Bells on a hill, birds in the sky, and love all around. Oh! And Valentine’s Day is coming up, too! As we are all aware, when we have an amour to call our own, the day of celebration for Saint Valentine can become very costly, very quickly. Fern and I have a few traditions which help us show how much we love one another, without possibly sacrificing the kids’ college fund. Here’s a few of the biggies for you.
Buy your gifts well, well ahead of time. What says I love you more? When you run out on February 13th and spend three hundred dollars on a last second item, or when you pay attention to what your significant other says all year long and buy them something that they want but would never expect? She may not remember that she asked for that certain item back in September, but the fact that you paid attention and remembered something like that speaks volumes about your devotion. Your effort will not go unnoticed.
There is absolutely no reason to overspend on the activities of Valentine’s Day. Love is simplicity, and the events of the day should reflect that. Running back and forth and here and there and back again is a sure way to arouse irritation in anyone, and the minute things become complicated, it can ruin the whole day. Go to the beach with a blanket and a bottle of wine. Take a long drive to nowhere together with your favorite romantic songs playing on the radio. Keep it simple!
Dinner is a must, absolutely. But why go out, wait an hour for a table in the cold outside a bustling restaurant, just to get inside and have both of your orders bungled? You tried, sure, but isn’t it much more intimate and romantic to stay at home and actually put forth the effort of cooking an enticing and delectable meal for the one that you adore? Nothing whispers “I love you” like a quiet, cozy, home-cooked dinner with your loved one.
So give these three little morsels of Valentine’s Day advice a try, and don’t forget to share your own tips for a Frugal love day with everyone else. Happy Valentine’s day everyone!
