Have you played The Frugality Game today?

Coffee2Mmmm….smell that ? That’s the sweet aroma of coffee being slowly roasted. It’s like heaven in fragrance form. You know what isn’t heavenly? The cost of café these days….five dollars for a latte? You’re kidding! There’s more foam in that drink than actual liquid! The coffee biz is big, and they make a killing, so here’s a few tips to keep the price of your java from mocha-ing you crazy.

Did you know that a long, long time ago, people used to have magical machines in their homes called coffee makers? They did just about everything that the machines in coffee shops do, and with the added convenience of never leaving having to leave the house! I understand that going out to the shop is more of an opportunity for social interaction than anything else to a lot of people at this point, but if all you want is a cup of coffee, don’t go all the way to the local bean hut to get it. For the four or five dollars you spend on that decaf mocha soy latte with extra foam, you could buy enough coffee for home brewing to last you a month. Remember: just $6.00 per day could make you a millionaire!

Drink less. Really, people drink way more coffee than they actually need to, and that’s just not healthy. One or two cups in the morning is fine, but once you start on your third or fourth cup of the day, you may be doing damage to your body, not to mention disturbing your sleeping patterns, which can make you irritable and a pain to those around you. Moderation is the key to anything good in life, and your coffee habits should be no exception.

Carry a thermos with you. Some coffee shops give discounts to customers who bring their own carriers (and those that don’t should). In addition to that bit of saved cash, the thermos will keep your beverage hotter and fresher for longer, which will save you from having to fork over four more bucks for a refill.

So go ahead and have yourself a venti-mocha-chaca-latte-ya-ya, but be smart about it and save yourself some cash. As always, feel free to share your own ideas with others. Bye now!
