Hey Frugal followers. Freddie in the house again. I was at school the other day when the announcement came blaring across the loudspeaker: “Prom tickets go on sale next week”. I freaked! I didn’t know what I was going to do. Then I remembered that I’m only a freshman and I can’t go to prom yet. Whew! Dodged a money-burning bullet there! Anyways, I got to thinking about a few years from now and what I’m going to do when it’s my turn to get ready for the senior promenade, and how I can avoid sending mom and dad to the poorhouse in the process. So like any upstanding young lad, I did my research and came up with a few ways to cut those costs before I cut a rug.

Don’t buy a new tux or dress. Why fork over a tiny fortune for a dress or tux that you’ll wear one time and let collect dust for the next thirty years? It doesn’t make sense and it certainly doesn’t save cents. Instead, borrow a slightly used dress from a friend or sibling. If you absolutely must purchase one, check the classifieds or, at the very least, purchase well in advance.

If you’re going to rent a limo, share. It’s more fun having company anyways. If you’re going to rent a limo for $500, make an agreement that you’ll share the costs and the ride with a couple of friends. Dividing that up between ten people will save you $450. That’s a lot of cheddar!

Finally, for the ladies, avoid having your hair and makeup professionally done. Spend a few weeks before the dance picking out the hair and makeup you want and practice. By the time the prom rolls around, you should be more than proficient enough to handle everything by yourself. Plus you’ll feel better that you did it yourself.

That’s all for now! I know there’s a lot of kids and parents out there with experiences of their own, so share ‘em, will ya? See you later, my peeps! Freddie Frugal, out!

Freddie has got it goin on…

I would love to see his coif;/

but one thing’s for sure, can’t buy a dress someone else is also wearing.

Freddie should come up with a “little black dress” standard for prom. I wonder who started that trend.
